Easter, a holiday that fills the heart with joy and the soul with warmth and light, is very close. One of the oldest and most beautiful traditions is the creation of Easter eggs.
Pysankas are a real art that unites generations. Each pattern is a language of symbols that conveys wishes for peace, prosperity, health and joy.
On the occasion of the Easter holiday, the Vinnytsia Regional Universal Scientific Library named after V. Atamanovsky held an ethnographic event “The Miracle of Podillia Easter Egg” as part of the cycle of folklore events “Learn from the Customs and Traditions of Podillia”, which was attended by 7 pupils of the Vinnytsia State Center for Aesthetic Education of VET, students of the Vinnytsia Vocational School No. 11, and the Center's staff.
Tetyana Pirus, a well-known Vinnytsia Easter egg maker, ethnologist, historian, member of the National Union of Folk Art Masters of Ukraine, head of the educational and research laboratory of Podillia ethnology at the Faculty of History, Law and Public Administration of the Kotsiubynskyi VDPU, conducted a master class on painting traditional Podillia Easter eggs. She told the audience about Podillia Easter eggs, the history and peculiarities of creating a pysanka amulet, symbols and colors, traditions and peculiarities of painting in Podillia. The artist also demonstrated her original Easter eggs from her collection, which she has repeatedly presented at national folk art festivals, national and regional exhibitions.
The participants of the workshop learned how to make their own pysankas, which they used to paint a traditional Easter egg, which will become a talisman for each of them in the future.
The ethno-event was accompanied by a book and illustration exhibition “The Spiritual Power of Tetiana Pirus' Work,” which featured books and scientific publications about the famous artist's Podillia pysanka.
