On March 19, Lina Kostenko, a contemporary Ukrainian writer, one of the most prominent representatives of the Sixties generation, who has won numerous literary prizes and awards, celebrates her 95th birthday. Her work is characterized by deep lyrical images, sophisticated characterizations, and philosophical content. Lina Kostenko's works have been translated into many European languages and are well known outside Ukraine.
On the occasion of Lina Kostenko's birthday, the Vinnytsia Regional Universal Scientific Library hosted a literary and artistic evening “And it's true, wings don't need soil”. The event was filled with the spirit of poetry, which was shared by 47 students from Vinnytsia Vocational School 1, Vinnytsia Vocational School 7, Vinnytsia Vocational School 11, and Vinnytsia Higher Vocational School of Services.
The event was truly decorated with songs based on Lina Kostenko's lyrics performed by talented singers Olga Samoiliuk (accompanied by Natalia Revutska) and Kateryna Radetska-Gulevatenko. Vadym Vasylenko, a literary critic and candidate of philological sciences, shared a story about the versatility of the poet's work, her unique talent and unwavering stance.
The event was accompanied by a book exhibition from the library's collections titled “Lina Kostenko - Voice of the Epoch”. The guests included teachers, students, schoolchildren, librarians and readers.
